NEWSLETTER Volume 2 Number 1

February 1, 2013

Insurance Contracting

SVHP is closing in on the Anthem contract. We anticipate the framework to be completed mid-February to bring to the membership. The contract will have components of fee for service, quality bonuses, and shared savings based upon inappropriate use of the emergency room and readmissions for same or similar diagnoses.  We will be contacting all members when the contract is ready to be presented, and arrange an informational meeting for the membership.

We have initiated discussions with the hospital on the self-insured product called Smart Health. The goal is to have a contract on or around April 1, for implementation July 1, 2013. More details will come in the next newsletter.

If you have questions on the contracting, please don’t hesitate to contact us at (203)576-5105.

Medical Staff Retreat

I will be attending the St. Vincent’s Medical Staff Retreat, and plan on a breakout meeting Saturday, February 9 at 3:00 p.m. You will receive details upon registration for the meeting. I look forward to meeting with the membership!

Clinical Integration Platform

We are close to signing the contract for MedVentive, the IT platform that will connect the disparate electronic health systems form offices, inpatient, radiology, lab and pharmacy. Our goal is to have 50% connectivity by June 30, 2013; 75% connectivity by September 1, 2013; and 90% connectivity by December 31, 2013. This will allow information for providers at the point of care on patients. We will be contacting offices starting February to discuss connecting to the platform. We are moving to interconnectivity of IT in our network!

SVHP New Office

We are happy to share the update on our new office to be located at 2754 Main Street, at the corner of Main Street and Hawley Avenue next to the hospital. Kuchma Corporation of Bridgeport is overseeing the project. Plans are to open the new building March 8, 2013. Keep a watch for an announcement of our move!

SVHP Committees

All SVHP members are encouraged to participate in one of our committees. We have switched from the planning phase to the operational phase. There are currently 3 working committees for you to consider:

Quality and Utilization Review Committee: The Quality and Utilization Review Committee assists the board in overseeing, ensuring and improving the quality and appropriateness of clinical care, patient safety, and satisfaction provided throughout the organization, and in shaping a strategy to achieve a high level of health throughout the greater Bridgeport community. The Committee meets the third Wednesday of the month at 7:00-8:00 a.m.

Information Technology Committee: The Information technology committee assists the board in overseeing the development of Health Information Technology Infrastructure and data management plans necessary to maintain high quality care and improve patient health. It meets the fourth Monday of the month at 6:00-7:00 p.m.

Population Health Management and Finance Committee:  The Population and Health Management and Finance Committee assists the Board in creating a population health strategy, managed care contracting, and fiscal and oversight duties. It meets the second Thursday of the Month at 6:00-7:00 p.m.

If you are interested in joining a committee, please send an email to info@stvincentshealthpartners.org, and provide your name, contact number and which committee you would like to join.

Value Added Benefits of Membership

SVHP is finalizing the details for members to access group purchasing. This division through Ascension has been re-organized, so there will be a phased in program to access group purchasing. It is anticipated that by mid-February, I will have details to purchase office supplies through Staples at substantial discounts. For medical supplies, we anticipate this benefit to be available around April 1, dependent on distributor set-up. For pharmaceuticals we are still in the planning stages, and I will keep everyone posted!

Educational Series

Health reform is happening at a rapid pace. To aid the membership in keeping up with the latest regulations and information on health reform, we are looking into monthly CME series that SVHP will sponsor. We will partner with St. Vincent’s Medical Center as well as Fairfield County Medical Association to provider speakers for this series. If anyone has suggestions for topics, please email them to info@stvincentshealthpartners.org .We anticipate this to roll out in April, 2013.

Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition by NCQA

We are proud to announce that Dr. Ben Weisman’s practice was recently recognized as a level 3 (highest rating!) Patient Centered Medical Home by NCQA! Congratulations! There are several other practices that are currently underway for the recognition process. We are about 2-3 weeks away from launching our website. I am enclosing a link to give a preview of what it will look like for those that are interested.
